With 2015 just around the corner, you're probably be gearing up for one of the biggest party nights of the year. Follow these personal safety tips, and spend the rest of your energy on having as much fun as possible!
1. Designate a sober driver.
Of course, a main concern for authorities – and everyone on the road – is the spike in drunken driving around this time of year. On a busy night like New Year’s Eve, it can be near impossible to find a cab after the ball drops. By having someone in your group stay sober, you’re guaranteed you won’t a) get stranded without a ride, or even worse, b) risk getting in a car with an intoxicated person.
2. Don't leave your drink laying around
Again, bars and parties are going to be packed. Keep your eye on your drink, and leave it under the supervision of a trusted friend if you visit the restroom. When in doubt, toss the beverage and get a new one. For extra peace of mind, bring drink test strips
along so you can find out if your beverage has been tampered with.
3. Be alert.
Never drink more than you can handle. Be sure you stay alert, confident and articulate – this will tell potentially dangerous people that you still have your wits about you.
Don’t walk alone! Travel in groups to reduce your risk of being attacked.
One of most enjoyable safety tips to follow: Eat! If you plan on drinking at all on New Year’s Eve, be sure to get some food in your stomach first.
