Bear Season - Officials Continue to Advocate Caution!
May 21st, 2011
It’s officially bear season! Wildlife officials are again urging caution this spring. BEAR SIGHTINGS have been numerous and a grizzly recently attacked hikers.
Authorities suggest the following tips to avoid bear encounters:
-Store your trash inside or consider a bear-resistant trash container
-Bring any bird feeders inside in the evenings (bears often go after these!)
-Clean outdoor grills
-Consider an electric fence
Should you come in close proximity with a bear consider the following:
-Do NOT run or throw anything at the bear
-Avoid making eye contact
-Carry bear spray (proven last line of defense used by wildlife professionals)
