A man was arrested in Deri Court, Edison, New Jersey after police responded to a home protection alarm that went off at 9:46 p.m. As reported by the Edison/Metuchen Sentinel yesterday, the suspect was charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools. When Patrolman Wilfredo Brown arrived at the scene, he saw that the home’s rear sliding door had been forced open, the carpet had muddy footprints on it and the suspect was moving at a fast pace toward the front of the home. The suspect was apprehended while trying to flee the scene. Nearby, officers found a backpack containing burglary tools.
While this Deri Court home was invaded in the evening, home burglaries also commonly take place during weekdays (when homeowners are typically at work) and in the early hours of the morning (when homeowners are typically asleep). At least 2,000,000 home burglaries occur each year in the U.S., and renters are just as likely as property owners to be targeted, according to SAFEGUARDTHEWORLD. The same company reports that homes “without security systems are up to 300% more likely to be broken into.”
The good news is that you can use these statistics to work toward protecting your home. Achieve peace of mind by installing a simple, affordable device in your home that can help deter burglars and alert those necessary. Browse the variety of
