Today we celebrate Veteran’s Day, a national holiday to pay tribute to our military personnel serving or who have served in armed conflicts. Your dear friends here at SABRE would like to honor all veterans, because your strength, pride, courage, and dedication has protected and affected us all in various ways. Heroes, we love and appreciate you.
On November 11, 1919, US President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed this day U.S. Armistice Day (Veterans Day) by saying, “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with lots of pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations.” This day touches the hearts of so many: those who have sacrificed their lives as well as their family members who have shed tears – not only for deaths, but for time missed and lost because duty called. As we consider the patriotism of our warriors and the dedication and strength of those left waiting at home – we shall honor this day with prayer, gratitude, and commemoration.
Go beyond leaving wreaths and crosses on graves and moments of silence by thinking of innovative ways to continue addressing the needs of our soldiers currently fighting – make donations, volunteer to build care packages, post appreciation videos, or whatever your heart desires. But whatever you decide to do, make sure you fully take advantage of this opportunity and occasion to honor those who are currently serving and have served in the past.
