A man attempting to sexually assault a runner in Cook County on Sunday, March 29, 2015 was thwarted by pepper spray, reports CBS Chicago. After deploying her pepper spray, the runner was able to escape and call law enforcement. She was then treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
This story is a reminder that bad things can happen in “safe” neighborhoods. The incident occurred in the Busse Woods Forest Preserve near Elke Grove Village, an area not many associate with crime. Laura Feder elaborated for CBS 2: “It scares me. I am a little shaken up because… to me, this is like a park so there’s always a lot of people here… always felt like it was kind of safe. I don’t even have pepper spray.”
