In 1975, Larry Nance founded SABRE – Security Equipment Corporation, operating out of his family home. Over the past four decades, SABRE has become the industry leader in personal safety with products are sold at nationwide retail chains. While we’re proud of our big box partnerships, we feel the same way about our mom and pop shops.
Sunday, March 29, 2015 is National Mom & Pop Business Owners Day. Help us celebrate by supporting small businesses in your area! SABRE will be looking back at our roots and feeling especially thankful for the small businesses that carry our products.
One of SABRE’s longtime small business partners is Ace Sporting Goods (Washington, PA), which specializes in firearms but carries everything “from sporting goods to auto accessories to toys to hardware items” – plus, of course, SABRE pepper spray! We asked Ace’s George Romanoff what makes running a small business so special. Here’s what he had to say:
“Running a small business is certainly challenging in this day and age with increased competition as well as government influence and restrictions, especially on firearms. Being a small business owner is rewarding because one can see growth in their business as well as having the ability to communicate and have contact with one’s customer base, vendors and the community at large. It is nice being one’s own boss and being responsible for those things that are successful and attending to situations that need correcting. Also, being a small businessman, all of our varied duties (sales, advertising, ordering, promotions, employment issues and marketing) makes for never a dull moment.”
