Fenton, MO - In the wake of the tragedy at Seattle Pacific University on Thursday afternoon, SABRE would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the families involved.
A lone, armed gunman opened fire inside Otto Harris Hall, the building that houses the school’s engineering, math and science departments.
According to police, three students were confronted in the foyer and shot.
Before the gunman was able to continue his unfortunate act, a student security guard was able to use pepper spray and tackle the shooter.
We feel it is very fortunate this individual was properly trained and carrying pepper spray. In this situation, the individual and the pepper spray were incredibly effective in disarming this threat, and lives were saved.
We know that unfortunately, attacks on our schools are occurring with more frequency. We are hopeful more institutions make the choice to invest in training and security equipment such as pepper spray to help keep our students safe.
