Today we have a guest blog from Lisa of Workout Mommy. She's be sharing ideas that you can keep in mind when you get up, out and active. We love that she has safety tips that will benefit you and your little ones!
Spring is FINALLY here and I could not be more thrilled! I am not a cold weather fan at all, so at the first break of warm weather, I take my workouts outside! Here are some of my favorite spring workout ideas:
Not only is it a great form of low impact exercise, but walking daily can drastically reduce your stress levels. I like to wear my Fitbit and see those steps add up. Feel free to add me as a Fitbit “friend”!
- Ride your bike
While I love a good spin class, nothing beats the feeling of fresh spring air on your face as you ride around town. Riding bikes outside is a must in your spring workout regime! If you have kids, put them in helmets and have them ride with you.
- Go to the track
One of my personal favorites for spring workouts is going to the local school track and running sprints and repeats. Spring is a great time of year for track workouts because the weather is still pleasant, unlike the heat and humidity of summertime.
- Find a hill
My neighborhood has a few steep hills and these are perfect for tough hill sprints/intervals. These are short bursts of running (or quick walking) up the hill to push your heart rate. Let yourself recover and then do it all over again! Burns the fat, lots of calories, and leaves you feeling pretty exhausted… in a good way!
- Take it to the park
Many of my spring workouts include the park because my kids and I spend a lot of time there now that the weather is nice. I use the park benches for step ups, the monkey bars for pull ups, we lunge around the perimeter, and of course there are always squat jumps and burpees. I love it, my kids love it and they love getting to play next to me while I get my workout done. It’s a win-win all around! So find a park and use your imagination.
Since I spend a lot of time outside, often by myself, I must admit I am a little nervous of being alone. As a single mom with four young kids, I just cannot afford to risk anything bad happening to me. I’ve started carrying this Personal Alarm with Key Ring from SABRE and it has given me tremendous peace of mind. First, it is super easy to carry and looks pretty much like a thumb drive for my computer. It is simple enough to activate (although thankfully I have not yet needed to do so!) and sets off a 110 dB alarm that will call attention to you right away. It hooks right onto my keys or in the stroller when I am out with the kids.
My mom used to tell me that you can never be too safe, and now that I am a mom myself, I finally understand! Plan ahead and protect yourself, and your family!
SABRE is is the #1 brand trusted by law enforcement worldwide. It is family owned and operated and has over four decades of experience in personal safety industry.
Now that I’m ready to go with my safety in check… I need to get out there and crush some spring workouts! How about you?
