It can happen anytime, anywhere and to anyone. It doesn’t discriminate based on age, gender, skin color or religion. It takes the form of a stranger, someone you know or someone you trust. It’s called sexual assault, and we need to do something to stop it.
We’ve read the news stories, followed the court cases and been thoroughly horrified at what we’ve learned – but how often do we stop and think about the numbers? Unfortunately, sexual assault is even more prevalent and underreported than many of us realize.
One in five is the number getting the most attention right now, thanks to the White House and campaigns like It’s On Us and 1 is 2 Many. April is Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month (#SAAPM), the perfect time to take a stand against sexual assault. Join the conversation on social media and read people's individual sexual assault experiences via our Survivor Stories campaign.
Survivor Stories is a partnership between SABRE, the world's leading personal safety brand, and RAINN, the world's largest anti-sexual assault organization. The initiative's ultimate goal is to raise awareness about sexual assault, survival and recovery.
Visit the Survivor Stories page throughout April to hear from 13 survivors of sexual assault. Essays and interviews will be posted on the blog each Monday and promoted throughout the week on Facebook, Twitter, G+ and Instagram.
