Columbia, South Carolina- A local law enforcement group of Midland recognizes the importance of women’s personal safety.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department held a free women's self defense class Saturday.
The program aims to empower women to acknowledge their own strength and make wise decisions when faced with danger.
One participant was quoted saying,
"My daughter had an incident with a carjacking and an abduction in Columbia recently. We've just really felt victimized. And I'm here to support her and help her feel that she can find some control and empowerment."
SABRE agrees that people should have the tools to feel empowered about their personal safety. We understand that there is a need for the general public to learn how to protect themselves. You are 52 times more likely to experience violence than you are to be in a car accident.
At our academy, you will learn:
Risk reduction strategies to help discourage potential threats.
How to protect yourself at a safe distance.
The best self defense technique to escape an attacker.
How to protect yourself during high stress encounters.
The best techniques to deploy pepper spray safely and effectively
