SABRE's Exclusive In-House HPLC Lab

Lab Tested Guarantee

Not all pepper sprays on the market provide consistent strenth. An independent University of Utah study found significant variation in the active ingredient concentration from some pepper spray manufacturers, but not SABRE.

Only SABRE's industry-exclusive HPLC laboratory testing guarantees the strength in every SABRE canister is consistent to help give you peace of mind, certainty, reliability, and safety when you need it most.

STATE-OF-THE-ART HPLC FACILITIES

See our industry-leading lab in action.

We test each batch of pepper spray in our HPLC lab and perform frequent independent testing. We are proud to provide the most consistent level of pungency possible to further increase our users’ safety.

WHAT DOES 'HPLC' MEAN?

HIGH PERFORMANCE LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY (HPLC) LABORATORY

With an industry exclusive in-house HPLC laboratory, only SABRE guarantees its maximum strength formulation in every canister to help give you peace of mind, certainty, reliability, and safety when you need it most. As the climate changes, so does the strength of red peppers and with that the effectiveness of pepper spray. That's why SABRE tests the levels of active ingredients at each stage of the manufacturing process - from dried pepper to produced spray - to guarantee heat levels every time.

WHY IS HPLC SO IMPORTANT?

GUARANTEED SABRE MAXIMUM STRENGTH FORMULA IN EVERY CANISTER

According to an independent study conducted by the University of Utah, variability rates in the concentration of active ingredients in pepper sprays have been shown to be only 70% effective, meaning that all pepper spray brands have a 30% failure rate. By testing each batch of pepper spray in the HPLC laboratory, SABRE guarantees the heat levels of every pepper spray manufactured by SABRE.

This heat failure rate was reported by the University of Utah study Quantitative Analysis of Capsaicinoids in Fresh Peppers, Oleoresin Capsicum and Pepper Spray Products.

HPLC STEP 1

AFTER MIXING OUR FORMULATIONS, A SMALL SAMPLE FROM EACH BATCH IS PREPARED FOR ANALYSIS BY DOUBLE-FILTRATION AND DILUTION.

HPLC STEP 2

THE SAMPLE IS TRANSFERRED INTO A VIAL AND PLACED INTO THE HPLC INSTRUMENT. THE HPLC MIXES THE SAMPLE WITH AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION AND FORCES IT THROUGH AN ANALYTICAL COLUMN AT HIGH PRESSURE. THE COLUMN FORCES THE COMPOUNDS IN THE SOLUTION TO SEPARATE.

HPLC STEP 3

Next, the solution is exposed to a broad-spectrum light. The compounds fluoresce, and this signal is read by a detector. The software plots the series of peaks in a format called a chromatogram.

THE INSTRUMENT DETECTS THE AMOUNT OF COMPOUND PRESENT, AT THE PART PER MILLION LEVEL.

HPLC STEP 4

THEN, IF THE BATCH DOESN'T MEET OUR HEAT STANDARDS, WE CALCULATE THE MARGIN OF ERROR AND MAKE NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS. THIS PROCESS IS REPEATED UNTIL WE ACHIEVE THE DESIRED PUNGENCY.

HPLC STEP 5

AFTER THE PEPPER SPRAY PASSES SABRE'S HPLC ANALYSIS, IT'S ON TO PRODUCTION!

THE RESULT?

THE MOST CONSISTENTLY POTENT PEPPER SPRAY IN THE INDUSTRY.

SABRE's pepper spray is always maximum strength, thanks to our HPLC lab.

Only SABRE guarantees its maximum strength formulation in every canister to help give you peace of mind, certainty, reliability, and safety when you need it most.
