New Zealand Corrections – SABRE Pepper Spray

After a 10 prison trial which ended in Nov. 2011, pepper spray is to become a more readily available safety option for New Zealand’s correctional officers. The government will not, however, allow all to carry pepper spray but all staff will be trained. The union for prison officers says most staff want to carry OC spray at all times. So the debate will continue, but one thing is for sure, for officer safety this a step in the right direction.
